Lochgoilhead Fiddle Workshop in Strachur offers an open traditional music session in Strachur Memorial Hall in the evenings the first and third Wednesdays of most months (please see our calendar to confirm dates and times). Players of all instruments and abilities are welcome.
Our sessions are typically held the first and third Wednesdays of the month, and run from 7pm to 9pm. They are held in Strachur Memorial Hall in the village.
Our open sessions are free. For regular attendees, we request a voluntary donation of £3 per session to help towards Hall Hire Fees and funding our organisation.
We are a Scottish folk music group, playing traditional and contemporary music. We're a pretty easy-going group of musicians who enjoy learning new tunes. Our typical session will see us play a lot of old favourites and learn a few new tunes, too.
Each participant is encouraged to select a tune they know and want to play, share, or teach to the group.
While it is not a concert nor a performance setting (we are not a professional music group, we have players of mixed abilities, and we do not rehearse tunes,) visitors are welcome to visit and enjoy our playing. We are always happy to see locals and visitors to the area.
Our music sessions are known as slow sessions, meaning we typically play with the music. If you don't know the tune, someone will be more than happy to share their music with you.

We offer group fiddle lessons, from beginners to advanced levels. Private lessons are also available. Tunes and technique are taught by ear, with the dots and a recording sent out afterward.
Lochgoilhead Fiddle Workshop in Strachur is a registered charity in Scotland. We exist to promote the performance, learning and appreciation of Scottish traditional fiddle music and its contemporary development; the understanding of its links with other cultural and artistic traditions, particularly those of song and dance; and to act as a conduit for these traditions.
